Joseph Miller (Kroto lake)
During summer vacation in 1993 together with my collage friends we decided to make fun of my late grandfather who claimed to have been attacked by a Sasquatch in his hunting cabin near Kroto lake. One of my friends installed a small speaker into a metal pipe. It’d direct sound towards where the pipe was pointing. We called it The Sasquatch Rifle. We’d go around my grandparents house playing “Whoomp There It Is” through that pipe. That’d drive my grandfather crazy. One day he yelled at us that if we saw a Sasquatch we’d shit our pants full. We told him that The Sasquatch Rifle would protect us.
To prove that we’re not afraid of a Sasquatch we took the Sasquatch Rifle and went camping to Kroto lake, where supposedly my grandfather was attacked. It’s about three hours ride north from Anchorage. We spent couple of nights there camping and playing “Whop there it is” through our Sasquatch Rifle. Nothing special happened but we had lots of fun and decided to go there every summer and try to attract Sasquatch with our specially made sound devices.
In total we went there five times. Every time we’d get more and more serious with our devices. For the forth time we had a 16 Feet long and 20 Inches wide solid metal pipe with 19 Inch speaker installed inside of it. We called it Super Sasquatch Canon. It was so heavy that we seriously considered leaving it on the bank of Kroto lake.
In 1997 we created a 52 Feet long pipe mounted on the specially constructed metal tower with two speakers installed in the middle of the pipe. For this pipe we created a very sophisticated sound with high and low frequency modulations. We named our device the Two Way Multi Sound Sasquatch Attractor (TWMSSA). It took us for trips on kayaks across the lake to take all the equipment to our camp site.
The first night we didn’t feel very comfortable. As I remember we were all worried about something and we were afraid to step away from the campfire. During our previous trips to Kroto lake we’ve never experienced anything like that before. Despite all that we decided to stay one more night. Next evening a heavy fog rose from the lake. We couldn’t see anything outside the light of the campfire. Roaring of the pipe felt very unpleasant. After it got completely dark we heard a shout coming from a distance. We freaked out. One of my friends grabbed his revolver and nervously pointed it towards the forest. Shouting repeated couple of times and stopped. After we all calmed down thinking that it’s all over the shouting repeated again. This time it was very close. It was the most terrifying sound I’ve ever heard. Next thing we heard were some heavy footsteps closing in and our metal pipe crashing to the ground. My friend fired his revolver towards where the pipe was standing. We heard a sound of wood cracking and suddenly a small tree flew towards us. It smashed into our tent completely obliterating it. We ran to the kayaks and started rowing as fast as we could. The creature didn’t follow but we could hear it shout till we reached the island in the middle of the lake. We fled leaving all our stuff behind. I was so terrified that I don’t even remember how we got to our truck and drove home. Since that time we never came back to Kroto lake. Even now writing this makes me nervous.
